To celebrate Mark's and my first wedding anniversary (oh yeah, we got married in April 2012 and you won't find any photos of the event up here-well not yet anyway), we made dinner reservations at Momofuku in Sydney. As we walked through Darling Harbour we were both wondering what we would be eating since there isn't a menu on line to suss out. We approached a huge paneled wall with a slight variation in colour to indicate where the oversized door is located.
As we walked in to the restaurant we were struck by the grand scale of the décor and the friendliness of the staff. But the real anticipation didn't hit until we were seated at our table which we excitedly noted as the Chef's table. We had front and center seats to the kitchen. We experienced dinner and a show; watching the action in the kitchen was like going to the theatre.
Our first course was served up to us as a snack and we were intrigued as to what it was after watching one of the chefs piping something in to a cone. Turns out it was super tasty smoked eel and the contrasting textures along with the smokiness were such a great start to the meal. It set the stage for the flavours and beautiful dishes that were going to be placed in front of us and explained to us by the chefs-and often the head chef who of course was stationed right in front of us.
We were so engrossed with each other, the someliar, the theatre of the kitchen and each and every plate of food that was presented to us that I didn't even manage to take photos of what we ate. And I think that says it all. Take me back.
